Casanova: Man or Myth? — 5 Nov 2025
From seducer of nuns to notches on a bedpost, Casanova has the reputation as a ladies man. But that is far from the whole story. In actuality, he was an author, translator, mathematician, law secretary, financier, spy, diplomat, and theater impresario. Describing carriage rides, hot chocolate, sharing beds at inns, carrying letters of introduction, playing faro, or buying ladies’ gloves, he also wrote one of the most valuable descriptions of European travel and daily life in the eighteenth century. Join Kathleen Gonzalez, author of books about Casanova in Venice and in Rome and organizer of a symposium on him, to unravel the man from the myths about him.
