Ancient Egyptian Astronomy as a Portal to the Afterlife
For the ancient Egyptians the night sky was a phenomenon. With clear skies and no electricity, the Milky Way was truly milky. So the belief arose that the Milky Way was produced by a celestial goddess: a cow goddess.
In addition, the night sky seemed alive. Over weeks there was (and is) movement that can be discerned. And the star Sirius would first appear in the morning sky just as the Nile entered flood stage. Thus the stars and constellations must be divine.
