SUMMARY:The Treasures of Tutankhamun–18 March 2026
DESCRIPTION:Packing them and the ordeals of getting them to America\nIn 1976 (50 years ago) Tom Logan traveled from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to Cairo, Egypt. At that time, he was an Associate Curator at the Met assigned to oversee the packing of 55 priceless treasures from King Tutankhamun’s tomb. The purpose of the exhibition was to improve relations between Egypt and the US.\nBut it was a trying time in the Middle East. In addition to unrest, a plane departing from Israel was hijacked to Entebbe, Uganda.\nThis lecture will review some of the art objects and the adventures, both chaotic and funny.\n
