Note from the President

Nancy Johnson, President

In my last “President’s Corner,”  I asked for your input on what topics you would most enjoy learning about in our Wednesday lectures. I mentioned the Gentrain “big four”: history, art history, philosophy, and literature. I also suggested music, world affairs, political science, and theatre as possibilities. But what else sparks your curiosity?  To better reflect the interests of our membership, please share your ideas. We’d love to know!

But first, a quick correction: in that column, I mistakenly gave the wrong email address for responses. The correct one is admin@gentrain.org (not .com). Your suggestions will be forwarded to me and then shared with the Board. My apologies to anyone who was unable to respond.

Looking ahead, we’ve decided that waiting two months between issues of The Conductor sometimes leaves too big a gap. To keep you better informed, I’ll be sending a shorter “President’s Update” by email in the months between. These updates will highlight upcoming activities and any important news.

  • A gentle reminder: if you haven’t yet renewed your membership, please do so before the end of the year.
  • On December 3, Krista Reuther, Assistant Director of Ohana (Montage’s behavioral health center for children and adolescents), will present “Social Media and Teen Mental Health.”
  • After that, we’ll take a holiday break. Our next lecture will be on January 21, 2026.

Wishing you a joyful and peaceful season
